Specifying surveillance and telemetry for oil and gas
Oil and gas surveillance starts with area classification — Zone 1 (frequent gas presence), Zone 2 (occasional), Zone 21/22 (dust). Once the zone is known, the protection method (Ex d, Ex e, Ex i, Ex ic) and gas group (typically IIB or IIC) drive product selection. We work from your DSEAR / EPD documentation to specify the right ratings for each location rather than over-specifying everything to Zone 1 IIC.
The wider system has to survive both the chemical and the electrical environment. Onshore refineries and petrochemical sites generally tolerate stainless cameras with hot-dip galvanised mounts; offshore needs 316L stainless and salt-spray resistance, plus longer lead times for the certificates of conformance the operator's vetting process will demand. Sensor networks for tanks, pipelines and cathodic protection benefit from LoRaWAN over cellular at most installations because the multi-year battery life takes the cost of routine maintenance trips out of the equation.

Which hazardous-area zones can your CCTV and trackers be deployed in?
We supply equipment rated for ATEX / IECEx Zone 1 and Zone 2 (gas) and Zone 21 / Zone 22 (dust). Protection methods include Ex d (flameproof), Ex e (increased safety), Ex i (intrinsic safety) and Ex ic depending on the device and zone. We help specify the right rating for your area classification during quotation.
Are your products certified to current standards?
Yes. Cameras, trackers and sensors are supplied with current ATEX 2014/34/EU and IECEx Scheme certificates, including UKEX where applicable post-Brexit. Certificates of conformance are provided with every order and our team can support DSEAR risk assessments.
Do you supply on-shore and offshore?
Yes. We support both on-shore refineries, terminals, midstream and upstream installations and offshore platforms / FPSO deployments. Offshore stock typically requires longer lead times due to certification and supply-chain logistics.
Can you support framework supply to majors and EPCs?
Yes. We supply on PO and DEFCON-style terms, support framework supply via prime EPCs and operator procurement teams, and have experience trading through Achilles, FPAL / Verify and similar vetting systems.
What about connectivity in remote sites without mobile coverage?
Where 4G/5G isn't available we layer in LoRaWAN gateways for sensor data and can specify VSAT and microwave-backhaul options for CCTV streams. SCADA-grade routers with VPN and dual-SIM failover are our default for sites with patchy cellular coverage.
Do you support hot-work and shutdown deployments?
Yes — temporary deployment kits with battery and solar power are available for shutdowns, turnarounds and major maintenance, with pre-configured perimeter CCTV and personnel tracking that can be deployed and demobilised quickly.
Can AI analytics run on hazardous-area cameras?
Yes. Most analytics run upstream of the camera on a local appliance or in the cloud, so the camera in the hazardous zone stays ATEX-rated while inference runs in the safe area. Where edge AI on hazardous-area hardware is required, we specify devices accordingly.
